Beijing Auto Show Coverage: Volkswagen finally releases details and pictures of their brand new Phaeton limousine

The understated limousine that was the brainchild of then chairman of the VW Group, Ferdinand Piëch, has finally seen a freshen up for the year 2010!

So it’s really not a full replacement model but rather a facelift. But unlike other lame attempts at these facelifts, the limo actually gets quite a bit of kit added to it both inside and out.

Come to think about it, we’re lucky there’s a handful of people in Singapore who were brave enough to break away from the pack and invest their money in something understated. Something not a ‘at-least-three-at-any-traffic-light’ Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series. Read more…

Beijing Auto Show Coverage: Introducing the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SV China Limited Edition

April 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Limited to only ten cars worldwide, the car, as beautiful as it is, seems to be another one of those meaningless limited editions designed to attract rich old men shopping around for a bragging accessory more than anything else.

What’s more, not only does the car come with it’s own numerical serial number plate attached on the inside, it also has the name of its owner on it – instantly stamping its seal of self-indulgence.

Now with the car having its own special edition for the Chinese market, it makes it the second (it should be accurate…we haven’t been keeping count though) supercar brand to do so – first being Ferrari with that Great Wall of China design it had on a 612 last year. Not the best looking edition but hey, what do we know right? Read more…

Just when you thought you were having a wretched week….we’re pretty sure what you’ve got aching your neck isn’t half as bad as what the driver of this car must be feeling.

And it’s in blue!

Early on Friday morning, those who follow us on Twitter (follow us!! @burning_rubber) thought I was pulling your leg when I said I saw an RS blow off a road-hogging Hyundai Sonata taxi near the Tanglin area.

To clear all doubt, I made a coupla calls (sent one text over facebook) to someone within Ford and….

F1: Sebastien Buemi’s front wheels come apart in Shanghai practice

April 17, 2010 2 comments

There’s some things you can put in words and then there are instances that leave you so stumped, the words escape you.

This has to be one of those times.

Braking hard into a sharp turn, the tyres and the accompanying mechanics connected to the rubber simply collapse and come apart!

Even Buemi had trouble describing the episode to reporters. Read more…

NEWS: Mercedes-Benz to build C-Class Coupe…but on what?

April 16, 2010 Leave a comment

As some of us might already know, the current E-Class Coupe prancing around is based on, and thus, is almost identical in dimensions to the C-Class sedan.

So if the E-Class Coupe is using the C-Class’s platform, what will the C-Class Coupe use as it’s basis?

Our guess is they’d probably go shorten the C’s platform enough to differentiate it from the two-door E car, but I had the impression they wanted the E Coupe to replace the CLK – which was based (as its moniker would suggest) on the C series.

There’s been no pictures released of how the car might look like but with production to take place in 2011, we’ll be expecting the car to take on the corporate face of the current line. Read more…

NEWS: McLaren’s new supercar to give Lamborghini and Ferrari a run for their pasta *Picture intensive*

April 13, 2010 Leave a comment

The company from Woking, England has kindly extended some of the MP4-12C’s vital statistics earlier in the week and it’s safe to say they’re set on making the rest of the supercar fraternity nervous.

“Below three seconds“.

That’s the estimate McLaren gave reporters for the MC4-12C’s 0-100 km/h timing.

To put that in perspective, that’s faster than Nissan’s supercar slayer, the GTR @3.5 seconds, the Lamborghini LP560-4 @3.4 seconds, Ferrari’s brand new 458 Italia @3.3 seconds and Porsche’s 2010 911 Turbo @3.2 seconds.

How it manages such impressive an impressive feat you might ask? There are two main contributing factors. Read more…
